2014 Oscars | Best Dressed

I guess by now there are probably a million and one posts on the Oscars and what we are most interested in...the fashion! But I thought what the heck I'll show you all my favourites. And the Best Dressed at the 2014 Oscars goes to...

Sandra Bullock wearing Alexander McQueen

Kerry Washington wearing Jason Wu

Jennifer Lawrence wearing Dior

Idina Menzel wearing Very Wang

There were so many amazing dresses at this years Oscars and to be honest I haven't seen a lot of "Oh god, what was she thinking?" dresses. I love how a lot of the dresses were quite plain with not a lot happening on them, sometimes the plainer the better in my book!

The men all looked very dapper in their suits, my two favourite were the following...

Leonardo Di'Caprio wearing Armani

Zac Efron wearing Calvin Klein

Who were your best dressed at the 2014 Oscars?

Blog Post Feature: Sport Luxe

The thought of roaming the streets of London dressed as a basket/baseball player never seemed to appeal to us. The likes of Isabel Marant and Marc Jacobs however, introduced a fresh new wave of sport luxe that intertwined pure androgyny with classic femininity. Perusing through magazines and blogs envisioned us with new takes on gym class dressing. The integration of baggy Troy Bolton-esque sweatshirts and classic peep-toe courts opened our eyes to a world were work wear was interlaced with evening gym classes. What could possibly be more convenient?

Take this oversized baseball jacket, for example; something we certainly wouldn’t consider to echo femininity and classic dressing, but combine with courts, or womanly wedged trainers, and any scent of masculinity has long been forgotten. Unless you’re advocating towards the let’s-play-basketball vibe (which we’re certainly not), erasing parts of boyishness has never been simpler. Still clinging on to your longstanding they-sit-at-the-back-of-my-wardrobe tracksuit bottoms? Ever thought of giving them a wash (a must) and piecing them with black patent courts? Bloggers and editors alike are embracing the gym-wear-as-outerwear trend. (Top secret: it’s right on trend) Shh.

Shopping trips now heavily result in a private sneak at what the sports aisle and men’s section has to offer. No, we don’t take Our Father or boyfriends, or Granddad, we simply peruse the aisles for our own satisfaction.

Although androgyny is taking the fashion world by storm this season (see Balenciaga and Dolce and Gabbana), fresh floral envisions that shy away from sweaty basket ballers (no offence if that’s your kind of game) evoke new tangs whereby flowers can become part of your gym kit. No doubt will we always name ourselves fans of the style that coheres boyishness with pure femininity, however this new idea whereby we can actually retain pretty floriated garments but still go for a lunch-time jog is a breath of fresh air. Literally.

Forget the haunted primary school P.E lessons and delve into a world were jogging, work and drinks attire become one. Okay, so if you can’t, or won’t, wear wedged trainers to work then just take some spare courts in your bag for later. Simple. Get your game on.

New Job Uniform Wishlist

As you may have read in my last post I went for a job interview and got the job so now obviously I have an excuse to go shopping as the uniform is all black and I actually own very few black items. I picked out 8 items that are on my wishlist and hopefully will purchase at the end of the month.

I've been looking for a new black blazer for a while as it's such a versatile piece of clothing. You can wear it to smarten up an outfit or as a casual jacket on a warm day.

These are very similar to the trousers I wore on my interview (post about them here) but it can't hurt to have more then 1 pair can it?

Everyone loves a peplum top and I think they can be made to look quite smart. And I love that this one has a empire line which is great for a girl like me who prefers to cover her bum.

This little number will be perfect for during the summer months. I love the Peter Pan collar mixed with the lace and that it's a shirt type dress.

5. New Look Black Leather Pleated Skirt
Unfortunately I can't seem to find this on the New Look website anymore. But I love these pleated skirts and more with a leather look about them.

There's a little bit of a theme going on with lace but I love the stuff. What I want to look for when I buy clothes for my new job is stuff I can see myself wearing outside of work also.

Again another pick for the summer or in winter with some thick black tights. I love the look of the zip detail on the front.

Another top with a Peter Pan collar but this time it's sequined. It's nice to add a bit of bling to an outfit just to jazz it up a bit.

If you have any recommendations for good places to shop for workwear let me know.

My Favourite Fashion Pieces

Happy Sunday!
You may have read my last post where I told you I was having some technical issues with my laptop so I wasn't sure how often I was going to be able to post. Well we somehow fixed it for now so I'm going to get as many posts written up and scheduled as I can so if the laptop breaks again I'll be a little bit more prepared. Anyway onto today's post...

I thought I'd do a bit of a different post for my blog. I want to expand my blog so it's not just a beauty blog but a beauty, fashion and lifestyle. I'm on my journey of doing this as I've done cooking posts in the past so what next... Fashion! I've done a OOTD post and hope to do more in the future but I find my style quite boring but let me know if you do want to see more. Today I'm going to show you my favourite fashion items I've been loving.

H&M Jumper
I spoke about this jumper in my very first OOTD post here. It's from H&M and I first saw it on Sophies from SophieIsMadeUp Instagram and fell in love with it straight away. I went straight out and purchased it and so glad I did. I've always found H&M a bit of a tricky place to shop as being a bigger curvy girl I've often found they don't always go big enough to fit comfortably. So to my surprise this not only fitted but was a tad baggy making it so comfortable to wear!

Primark Skater Dress
So the story behind the reason for the purchase of this dress was my best friend was getting her little baby girl christened and to be honest I had only ever been to a christening when I was little so I had no idea what to wear. My friend kind of told me roughly what most people wore to these kind of events. So when I went shopping I saw a few different dresses I really like but what made me get this particular one was that I didn't previously own anything of this gorgeous blue colour. It also came with a skinny black belt. I also love that it slightly covers my shoulders.

Primark Jacket
Now I'm really late on the bandwagon with this purchase but all the same so excited. This is probably my favourite purchase for a long time. I've seen so many versions of these jackets from sequins to leather to denim. I really wanted the khaki jacket with sequin sleeves but didn't know how much use I would get out of it as it would look lovely for evenings out but didn't know about on a day to day basis. Then I saw this baby in Primark for £25, great I thought but at the time I didn't have any money. So a couple of weeks later when I got paid I looked high and low but couldn't find it anywhere. Then I finally got my hands on it and I love it so much. It's such a good quality item for Primark and I'm so glad I got it.

What have been your favourite fashion pieces lately?

House Of Fraser Dress Campaign

I love dress shopping! When an occasion comes about where I need to purchase a new dress I get all excited. Whether it be a birthday, night out, christening or wedding I love the feel of wondering around shops looking for the perfect dress! I was contacted to see if I would help out with the 'House Of Fraser: Dress Campaign' and if I could pick out a couple of my favourite dresses from their site, so of course I said yes! I picked a variety of different price range dresses from bank breaker to affordable. So let me show you my top 4, and if you want to browse these lovely dresses then click the link!

Dress 1. Aftershock Clarice Maxi Dress £315.00
This is the highest priced dress I picked. Although I don't think I could ever afford a deluxe dress like this I think it is absolutely incredible! I love the colours of the dress and the detail on the top half. And particularly for me, I'm not a big fan of my legs so maxi dresses are a big win in my books.

My next higher priced dress is this gorgeous daisy dress. Now I know it's called a prom dress and I'm 7 years older from my prom but I kinda guessed you could wear this dress for anything. If I had the money I would buy it simply for summer because it would just look so pretty but I also thought it would be nice as a wedding dress/bridesmaid dresses if you didn't want to go for the traditional wedding dress.

I love monochrome clothes. I especially love how this dress is designed with the white paneling and the coral coloured skinny belt. This would be a great dress to wear out for a birthday or just a night out (if it was just a little bit more affordable!).

This is the cheapest dress of the four. And I definitely see this as a Christmas party / New Years Eve dress choice. It is also available in black sequin but I think I prefer the Burgundy as it's very on trend at the moment and is just a bit more out there rather then black. I would also love to have this as a dress for my birthday on a night out, definitely a party girl dress.

Did you see anything you liked? I think my favourite has to be the Burgundy Sequin dress.
Visit the 'House Of Fraser' site to see these lovely dresses and more.

My First OOTD - January '13

Top - H&M £14.99
Jeans - Primark £7.00
Boots - Primark £5.00

Well welcome to my first OOTD. I've got to say thank you to my dad for taking the picture for me. This was a big deal for me as I'm not the most confident person when it comes to my body. But being in the beauty bloggers community for a year now, I can say that it's definitely helped me with some of my body issues. I have fallen in love with this jumper (even though I've only had this for a couple of days!) and I bought it because I saw Sophie from SophieIsMadeUp had purchased it and Instagrammed it and I knew I would love it. Also I need more jumpers in my life. It's available in 6 colours:

The jeans are just standard skinny jeans from Primark. I needed more jeans and don't own any light wash ones, mine are all dark so I picked these up and at only £7 its a bargain. And the boots are the cheap version of Uggs from Primark!!

Hope you enjoyed this, and let me know if you want more of these posts in the future.

*Duo Boots

I was contacted by Alexandra who is currently working on behalf of www.duoboots.com and was asked if I would take a look at their site and maybe write a post about them.
Before being contacted I had never heard of Duo Boots so was intrigued to take a look at their site to see what they had to offer.

I thought I would show you a couple of favourite pieces I've found on the site...

I've been looking for a pair of boots like these for ages, sadly I don't think I can afford these particular ones but aren't they gorgeous! They are also available in Tan. These would be perfect to wear with skinny jeans or leggings and a over sized shirt.

OMG how cute are these shoe boots. They are a lovely burgundy suede with leather buttons. I could imagine wearing these with a skirt or dress and tights, would look so cute.  They are available in black suede as well. And on sale...bonus!

I thought I would try and spread out the range of prices on the site but I couldn't leave these out. Again these are in the sale so that's a bonus and would be perfect for these colder months. Plus with the heel it adds a little bit extra to the shoe. These are also available in Black.

As you may be able to tell I love ankle boots. Duo Boots do also offer a whole range of boots from ankle to knee high and even offer flat shoes like ballerina style and wedges. If your like me and have a bit of extra calf (Us bigger girls all suffer from this) so find it difficult to find knee high shoes which will actually go over your calf's then worry no more. Duo Boots actually lets you pick a calf width in cm so you can alter the boot to suit your needs. Some of their boots are also available in different widths so girls and boys who suffer with wide feet (again like me..) again can alter to suit you.

All in all I'm liking the shoes available from this site and I think I might try and save some pennies to treat myself to a nice pair of boots.

*Mallzee - A New Way To Shop

Online shopping is definitely a thing of today. As much as going to town is fun who wouldn't much prefer sitting at home in the warmth and purchasing pretty things with a click of a button (Especially around Christmas time when the shops are manic, yes I'm thinking about Christmas 2013!). The only time this can sometime hinder more then help is when it comes to clothes shopping.

The fun thing I find about going clothes shopping with friends is trying on outfits and getting your friends opinion right? When shopping online I can't say many people find something and then email their friends for their opinion before purchasing. This is what online shopping is lacking... The social side to it.

This is where Mallzee comes in handy! Mallzee claims to be the new social way of shopping online. This is what they say...

"Mallzee is all about creating a new experience for shopping online. Users create their own personalized shopping mall (Mallzee) by picking their favourite brands and stores. Our fancy software then finds products matching your personal style and showcases them in your Mallzee! To add a new social aspect users can then invite their friends to ‘visit’ their Mallzee through the use of Facebook chat. Friends can then discuss product choices and star items they think their friends will love and purchase from the mall themselves with great discounts negotiated by us. If you're still unable to decided on a purchase you can also create polls to ask your friends opinions before you buy. An added bonus to inviting friends to your mallzee is that as the ‘owner’ you earn money every time anyone buys from your Mallzee! (That's right you get paid when you or your friends shop!)

Currently we have over 200 brands signed up to Mallzee (Urban Outfitters, New Look, Feel Unique and St. Tropez to name a few). We're really keen to get the word out about Mallzee and get future users excited about the concept before we launch later this year. With this in mind people can register now for a launch invite at Mallzee.com and if they spread the word on Facebook or Twitter we will also enter them into a prize for £100/$155 of shopping vouchers and some other goodies"

I am 100% sold on this site particularly drawn to the brands which are already signed up to the whole idea. New Look, Feel Unique and St. Tropaz are among some of my favourite brands so I cannot wait for this site to launch. I haven't heard about a launch date as of yet but I would keep an eye out very soon!

If you haven't already signed up...Err why not ha! You can do so here and be among the first ones to experience this exciting experiment.

Christmas Party Dress Hunt: ASOS

Since I got such a good response from my post about Christmas Party Dress Hunting in New Look (You can read that post here) I thought maybe I'll do a couple more posts from didn't shops / sites leading up to the festive period.
These are all from asos.com.

I love this dress. It's got the collar on it which is on trend at the moment and I love the skirt on it that puffs out sorta like a tutu. I'm also a lover of lace, so you can't really go wrong with this dress.
Again with the lace (I am rather obsessed!) and I adore the colour of this dress. A burgundy red wine sort of colour is definitely in season and especially for the month of December. I also like that it has little sleeves, which if your like me and hate your arms this would make me feel a little bit more secure and comfortable.
3. ASOS Party Dress with Velvet Trim - £40.00 £30.00
I know a lot of people tend to steer away from the lighter colours around Christmas time. Red wine + a cream dress = DISASTER! But I thought I would just throw this one in to the mix as a suggestion in case your attending a alcohol free soiree.
I chose this dress as it's different to anything I've really seen before. I love the sequinned collar and bodice with the mesh material going across the chest area. Being a curvy girl, I'm not too keen on bodycon dresses but its not something that can't be solved with a pair of spanx!
Can you see a pattern emerging here? Another dress which is black & gold with sequins! Well everyone loves a bit of sparkle at their Christmas party don't they? This is a fun little dress that could still be worn after the festive period on a night out. And it's discounted at the moment...bonus!!
I thought I would chuck in another festive colour and a favourite for a lot of people, a little red dress! Again the bodice covered in sequins with a lovely chiffon skirt. The bodice has a wonderful cornelli flower design.
